Default Hacked?

Just this week 2 of my Guildmates got their account hacked into. The hacker took all their money, weapons, and minipets. They deleted all their level 20 characters but left behind lower level characters, customized weapons, and non-rare materials. I later found that another guild that one of my guildies has friends in recently had 3 of their members hacked with similar results. All of them this week! WTF?!

Have you all noticed or heard about more of this happening recently? All of our members have now changed their passwords for GW, our forum, our vent...etc.

If it is in the same guild I suspect that a evil admin on your server/vent is looking at the password and then seeing if it is the same password as the account.

... Or did your guildies download something together to get an 'advantage' in the game?

Assume any downloads regarding GW not from ANet have keyloggers.

I heard that. Was it not the Slovenian Farmers Union? I heard Interpole was making a big racketering investigation on this questionble organisation. Something about them Farming accounts insted of monsters.

Report it to Anet and hope they consider rolling back your account, if that's even possible.

I wouldn't hold my breath though, they seem to wash their hands off various things e.g. if you been scammed or if you lose stuff (by accident or by bug) you'll get no compensation.

have all of you checked your pcs for spyware using a good tool such as spyware doctor or spy sweeper to start?

do you have a unique email that you use only for your game account?
is that email address a random alpha/numeric as long as your isp will let you make it?

do you use your game password in any other place at all?

have any of the affected shared any information with *trusted* guildies?

sent any email back and forth so they know your email which is half of your protection right there?

Strangly enough, 3 people who are in a friend of mine's guild got there accounts hacked... so i doubt there is any connection between guilds, probably just some hacker mastermind... i reccomend changing your password.

Looks to me like someone got ahold of a script for keylogging, implanted it into your guild forums somehow (whether it be an admin or user who knew of flaws in the particular bbs used)

unfortunatly the can not do individual rollbacks the whole server would have to be rolledback.

People really need to pay attention when making passwords

It says everywhere NOT to use the same password for different things and NOT to pick something too obvious.

Basically most people that are 'hacked' pretty much had it coming since they left a door wide open.

Not that I don't feel for them, but they should be more careful.

My friend got hacked 3 weeks ago. He later got back his account and then a week later, he got hacked again*. Then 4 days ago, another member of the guild that I know got his account hacked by the exact same person. The hacker stole his fow armor and deleted all his characters. He went on the earlier hacked account and actually met me in the guild hall and then asked for a ransom for my friend's fow armor...

He just got his account back though..but he isn't going to play anymore, well since getting hacked 2 times and losing his stuff was enough to quit.

There have been issues with Vent and TS regarding ppl being able to access and hack throug the private servers, after closing the connection used by these programs you should make sure the ports on your computer is closed, also configure your firewalls so TS and vent only can access the program client on your computer, nothing else.

A bit of common sense and you will never get your account hacked. Period.

Ya I realized this was probably possible about half a year ago when an admin for my old guild's forum changed my avatar as sort of a joke. Ever since I've been putting a different password to every different thing I have to log on to. Doesn't hurt to have a second yahoo email either.
